~About

The oyster is a creature that lies in a secret oceanic world.  Unlike many gorgeous creatures that grace the great depths, the oyster lacks exterior beauty.  It almost seems ugly and useless at first thought.  However, whether by chance or by purpose, this creature can produce one of the most beautiful items in the world– the pearl.  When an irritant enters the oyster, it busies itself by covering the irritant with nacre.  As time slowly passes, the oyster steadily builds the pearl.  Eventually, the irritant is no longer seen; it almost seems forgotten.  The beauty of the pearl completely overshadows the irritant.  Whether the pearl was intentionally produced by a pearl farmer or if it was harvested by a fortunate soul who happens to discover the hidden treasure, it is agreed by all that the pearl is breath-taking and beautiful.  What started as interruption to the oyster’s regular life is now a valuable precious object that is often formed into jewelry for many to admire.

Do you have a personal pearl?  Has an irritant entered your life unexpectedly?  Did the irritant disrupt your life plans temporarily, long term, or even permanently?  Maybe you possess a collection of pearls from a lifetime of hurts.  Perhaps you recently encountered an irritant in your life.  Are you looking to God to help you produce nacre?  Are you asking God to help you take this irritant and use it for something beautiful?  There is nothing special about our existence apart from God.  However, God can use us to produce something precious and valuable.  Are you slowly, patiently trusting in God?  He knows the perfect time to harvest your pearl!  When he does, that initial “irritant” will pale in comparison to the beauty of God’s work in your life.

I will never understand why God chose me to be the recipient of an irritant, but He did.  I never thought, “I don’t deserve this.”  Rather, I am puzzled that God used me to share His story with so many people.
