“Scars: A Deeper Meaning”
“Scars” I AM THEY
Scars present a complex dichotomy. From the negative perspective, they represent something bad that has happened. Conversely, they positively reflect a healing presence. Hmmmm…. How is this balanced?

I possess very visible scars. I could choose the pessimistic view and focus on the negative experience that produced the scars. Or I can choose the optimistic view and see evidence of the healing God enabled me to have. That mindset isn’t always easy, but I know the wise choice is to focus on the healing, not the destruction. This view enables me to be thankful for the scars.

In John 20:25 we learn of Thomas’s plan for identifying the risen savior.
“Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails,
and put my finger into the print of the nails,
and put my hand into His side,
I will not believe.”
Essentially the “scars” of Jesus’ nail prints would prove to Thomas who Christ was and His power. As I mention in my previous posts, my scars remind me of God’s power and miraculous healing.

I would never choose to go through this horrible trial again, but I do choose to learn from it. Primarily, I developed a deeper relationship with God. I experienced a reliance upon Him that I would never have if this trial had not entered my life.
Although I am not perfect and I often fail, I see how God has used my situation to enable me to help and encourage others in various ways. The situation reminds me of agricultural pruning.
Recently, my husband pruned our apple trees. The pruned branches were thriving; however, he wanted the tree’s energy directed elsewhere. His goal was to stimulate growth in a more desirable area. However, the tree develops “scars” where it is pruned. In my tragedy, God chose to “prune” my physical ability resulting in more growth in other aspects of my life. This perspective makes me thankful for the scars!

Today’s song depicts my perspective perfectly. This entire song provides a precious message.
Verse 1
“Waking up to a new sunrise
Looking back from the other side
I can see now with open eyes
Darkest water and deepest pain
I wouldn’t trade it for anything
‘Cause my brokenness brought me to you
And these wounds are a story you’ll use”
Verse 2
“Now I’m standing in confidence
With the strength of your faithfulness
And I’m not who I was before
No, I don’t have to fear anymore”
Chorus
“So I’m thankful for the scars
‘Cause without them I wouldn’t know your heart
And I know they’ll always tell of who you are
So forever I am thankful for the scars”
Bridge
“I can see, I can see
How you delivered me
In your hands, in your feet
I found my victory”
Whether you are struggling with physical or emotional scars, may you find peace in knowing God can provide strength to heal. Your scars display the strength and victory provided by God.
